Central Market PIK, which was developed by Amantara, a subsidiary of the Agung Sedayu Group (ASG), succeeded in achieving the EDGE Advanced Green Building Certificate. Central Market PIK is the first retail building in Indonesia to receive certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) - World Bank Group and the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI).
As an eco-lifestyle hub, Central Market PIK adopts a sustainability concept by using solar panels, natural lighting and a natural cross ventilation system. Moreover, biophilic design, vertical gardens and green canopies are also presented to create harmony between the building architecture and the natural environment, thereby merging the boundaries between indoor and outdoor space.
As is known recently, the issue of sustainability has become a major concern for the world community. Including architects, urban planners, stakeholders and property developers.
In Indonesia, ASG is one of the property developers that is also implementing the concept of sustainable and environmentally friendly development. Basically, green buildings do not only focus on energy efficiency and the use of environmentally friendly materials. On the other hand, it is also designed to create a sustainable environment and maximize the use of natural resources through the use of the latest technology. Regarding the international certification achieved, CEO of Commercial & Hotels Amantara, ASG, Natalia Kusumo said this achievement was part of Amantara's environmental and sustainability initiatives and dedication in efforts to improve the quality of people's lives.

PTI Architects as the main architect collaborated with Bitte Design Studio as the interior designer of Central Market PIK using environmentally friendly materials such as natural stone, reclaimed wood from Milan Ecowood, terrazzo, terracotta and wood-plastic composite (WPC) to create a warm atmosphere. Apart from that, Grow Little Garden as a landscape consultant also adds a cool impression with cool green landscapes, both indoors and outdoors.
Supporting Amantara's sustainability vision, Eco-Mantra also plays a role as a green building consultant to reduce the environmental impact of Central Market PIK.
"Eco-Mantra plays a role in increasing understanding of the environmental impacts associated with the use of energy, water and materials. In addition, we also guide Central Market PIK through the EDGE certification process and ensure that they meet international green building standards set by the International Finance Corporation from the World Bank," said Head of Operations Eco-Mantra and Green Building Expert Mendi Siahandan.
The Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) process led by Eco-Mantra is known to increase resource efficiency compared to retail buildings in general. As a result, Central Market PIK can save 42 percent of energy use, 28 percent of water use, and 54 percent of embodied energy.
Not only that, Central Market PIK also has the largest solar panel installation for retail buildings in Indonesia, namely 855 panels capable of producing 465 kWp of power. Thus, this environmentally friendly retail destination located on Golf Island PIK has investment costs 30 percent lower than mall buildings of its class throughout Indonesia.
"As a green building, Central Market PIK continues to show its commitment to creating a sustainable environment. This achievement can certainly motivate property developers in Indonesia to apply the green building concept, considering that around 38% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions are generated from building operations," said the East Asia Regional Lead Green Buildings and Green Cities Program of the Climate Business Department at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Farida Lasida Adji.
Central Market's efforts in creating a sustainable environment and development do not only extend to achieving the EDGE Advanced certificate. In line with the Indonesian government's target to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060, the entire team strives to consistently implement strict standards in its role to create quality life until the PIK area is able to achieve the Zero Carbon certification level.
